I love snuggling with my dog. Jack-Jack is a fifteen pound toy fox terrier, and super cuddly. He's a rescue dog, about 5 years old, and a lovable sweetheart. Which is why his participation, however unwilling, in my itch is all the more of a betrayal.
Is it a bumper year for poison ivy? It is everywhere out here, and apparently my delightful little pooch wandered through some, and then came in and gave me much love, as my neck itches so fiercely that I want to claw my skin off. I am lucky, because I don't have welts, just red splotches. Very attractive. Popping Benedryl like it's candy.In other, less itchy, news, I have finally begun reading The Fellowship of the Ring {Being the first part of The Lord of the Rings}.
I am ashamed to say that I have never read this trilogy (not ashamed to say that I've never watched the movie--I make a point of reading before watching when I can). I actually read the prologue. Have any of you? I hardly ever do, but it seemed important for this series. Unfortunately it was long, so I feel like I have barely started despite reading for several evenings.
If you have read the series, what was your take? A good read, worth reading just for the experience, or overrated?

I love the Lord of the Rings trilogy...perfect fantasy mindlessness...never read the books though. REdemption, my husband read The Hobbit this spring which is not on my "reading list". Really cleared up some things from the movies. We are big book- on-cd peopel when we go to out VT place...I agree books are usually SO much better!!

Well, I should say The Hobbit "was not" on my reading list...but it might be...
My family (all fantasy lovers) love Tolkein! It's a classic trilogy. I think it would be a great summer read! Hope you're having a great summer...stay cool!
It makes sense that The Hobbit clears things up, as the prologue was supposed to be a recap of The Hobbit so you understand what the heck is going on. :)
I have to start up a mindless knit project so I can multitask... Right now I have an inner battle whether to work on the sweater or read (last night knitting won out).
My mom keeps getting poison Ivy this year - Have you tried sweet fern? It's works better than creams and lotions to stop that itch.
I haven't tried sweet fern, thanks for the tip! It must be a common issue this year, as lots of folks have first-hand recommendations for therapy. :)
